The Music Department at the Near East Junior College (NEJC) is made up of experienced teachers who are specialists in their field.
The NEJC Music Department has adopted the principles of “Contemporary Teaching Methods” in their music teaching programmes and lessons are held in fully equipped music rooms suitable for applying such methods. The “Orff Schulwerk” approach of music education is often used in our classroom musical activities.
During the school year, the NEJC choir, which is run and organised by our music teachers, performs at a number of ceremonies and events for 29th October Anniversary of the Foundation of the Turkish Republic, 10th November Commemoration of Atatürk, 15th November Anniversary of the Foundation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, 21st December National Struggle and Memorial of Martyrs, 13th January Remembrance of Rauf Raif Denktaş, 15th January Remembrance of Dr. Fazıl Küçük, Tree and Forest Week, 23rd April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day and various year-end events in order to reinforce the meaning and importance of such occasions with music.
To date, the NEJC polyphonic choir has been invited to various events. Thanks to the devoted work of our music teachers, our choir often performs in programmes on BRTK, Radyo Güven and Genç TV and has previously performed at the Choirs Festival and also performed on the same stage alongside Cyprus’ legendary band SILA4 in 2011 in front of 750 people.
The Horn-Drum Team, which first performed at the Near East University’s 25th Year Carnival, is said to be an indispensable part of both the Near East Primary School’s and the Near East University’s activities as a result of its disciplined and systematic studies.
The teachers in the NEJC Music Department aim to encourage our children to love music from a young age, to become good and selective listeners and to recognise their music abilities, and due to the music education offered, lay the groundwork for creating artists of the future.
