Hasan Yükselen, one of the important educators of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, was sent on his last journey. Having worked as a teacher and administrator for many years in his 53-year educational life, Yükselen served as the Founding Director of Near East Primary School for 23 years.

A ceremony was held outside the Near East University Hospital for Hasan Yükselen, who died at the age of 78. Hasan Yükselen's daughter Güliz Hüdaoğlu and her son-in-law Gürdal Hüdaoğlu also attended the ceremony. Near East University Founding Rector Dr. Suat İrfan Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprises Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan and Near East Primary Education Head of Education Ertan Aligüllü and school principals, teachers and students also attended the ceremony.

At the ceremony, Near East Primary Education Director Ertan Aligüllü, Dr. Suat Günsel Kyrenia Primary School Principal İzzet Yılmaz and Hasan Yükselen's son-in-law Gürdal Hüdaoğlu made speeches.

After the speeches, Hasan Yükselen's body was taken to the shoulders with applause and sent to the Nicosia Cemetery, where he was buried.

Ertan Aligüllü: “Even though we lost him physically, the name and services of our teacher Hasan Yükselen will live on forever.”
Ertan Ali Güllü, Head of Near East Primary Education Director, said that Hasan Yükselen, who had a successful education life of 53 years, has served for 23 years since the establishment of Near East Primary School and that he has made great efforts to make advances. Aligüllü said, “Even though we lost him physically, the name and services of our teacher Hasan Yükselen will live on forever. Near Easterners will never forget him.”

İzzet Yılmaz: “I learned a lot while working with our teacher Hasan, both as a teacher and as an administrator.”
İzzet Yılmaz, who was the assistant of Hasan Yükselen when he assumed the directorship of the Near East Primary School, said that he felt very lucky as one of the people who worked the most overtime with Yükselen at the Near East Primary School.

Today Dr. İzzet Yılmaz, who served as the principal of Suat Günsel Kyrenia Primary School, said, “I learned a lot while working with Hasan, both as a teacher and as an administrator. Today, in my school where I am the principal, I apply many things I learned from Mr. Hasan.” Yılmaz also said, "I'm glad our paths crossed. I'm glad I had the chance to work with him. Teacher Hasan cannot be explained in words. I have always told my friends about the order and system that Teacher Hasan has set up at school and I will continue to do so. My condolences to all of us."

Gürdal Hüdaoğlu: “Even after he retired, he never lost his emotional connection with the Near East.”
Hasan Yükselen's son-in-law Gürdal Hüdaoğlu, who delivered a speech on behalf of his family at the ceremony, emphasized that Hasan Yükselen, who devoted his life to education, continued to think and produce about education until his last day. Stating that Yükselen always regarded the Near East as a big family, Hüdaoğlu said, "Even after he retired, he never lost his emotional connection with the Near East." Stating that Hasan Yükselen spent his treatment at the Near East University Hospital, Gürdal Hüdaoğlu said, “He has always been taken care of here. He would be proud not only because of the care he received but also that there is such a well-equipped health institution serving its society in our country.” Hüdaoğlu said, "I would like to thank all the Near Easterners, especially our teacher Suat Günsel, who did not leave my father alone in this last journey, as he did throughout his life."
